Key snapped in the lock?
Keys wear thin over time and can break, especially in stiff or worn locks. Trying to dig the piece out with pins or tweezers often pushes it further in and can damage the lock.
Tip: Don't try to use the lock or force the broken piece out. Leave it where it is and call us. That gives us the best chance of removing it without replacing the lock.
What we do
- Remove the broken key with specialist extraction tools
- Check the lock for wear or damage
- Service or repair the lock if it caused the key to break
- Replace the lock if it is no longer reliable
Why keys break
A key usually snaps because the lock is stiff, the door is out of alignment or the key itself is worn. If we find a problem with the lock, we'll fix it so it doesn't happen again. See lock repairs.
